19th Century Italian Puglia Painted Bowl AN-5072

An everyday bowl made by a folk potter in Puglia, perfect for serving salads, bean dishes, pasta, etc.

The single-stroke spiral pattern painted on the inside is one of the improvised decorative designs commonly seen in Puglia's private kilns from the late 18th century to the first half of the 19th century.

The glaze has peeled away, revealing the base metal and the simple patterns that appear within the rings make me think of the time that has passed.
